1: Where are you from originally?

I was born in Boston, MA but grew up in Concord, NC for most of my life. I went to grade school, junior/senior high school and college in North Carolina. I also met and married the love of my life and raised two wonderful children in North Carolina. So, I consider North Carolina my home.

2. What is your favorite WOD/movement?

Are you kidding me? I love them all! After shoulder surgery two years ago and partial knee replacement surgery in May of this year I am thrilled to do any movement you want to throw at me!

3. What is your least favorite WOD/ Movement?

I love to hate burpees but, I do them gladly. They are always part of a great workout and they bring back fond memories of doing the same movement in football growing up.

4. What were you doing before Bootcamp? How did you hear about CrossFit and/ Northlake Bootcamp?

Once I realized the pounding from running – along with inheriting the bad knee “gene” from my Mom’s side of the family – was taking its toll on my knees, I switched to working out at the fitness center in Northstone for the past many years and concentrated on low impact exercise.

My son, Ben (a coach at CrossFit Northlake), initially got me involved with CrossFit after my shoulder surgery two years ago. After my partial knee replacement surgery in May it seemed to be the logical choice to jump back in the action with Bootcamp at CrossFit Northlake.

5. What other sports or activities do you participate in besides Bootcamp?

At this point Bootcamp is it. I love the workouts, they provide the exercise I need and a great, supportive environment in which to workout. Plus, I don’t have to plan my workouts anymore! Bootcamp has been great physical and mental therapy for me following my surgery and, unfortunately, my schedule won’t allow much more.

6. How many times per week do you workout?

Bootcamp four times a week – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday nights and Saturday mornings.

7. What is your athletic background?

I grew up in a family of six children and we were all very competitive. I was involved in all sports growing up: football, basketball, track, baseball and swimming. I gravitated to running post college and have completed 5 marathons and countless 10K’s, 5K’s, etc.

8. Give us some insight as to your thoughts after your first workout at CrossFit Northlake.

I love this! Give me more! Where was this sport when I wore a younger man’s clothes?

9. Do you have any special or favorite Northlake Bootcamp memories/moments?

I love hearing my son Ben shout “Bruuuuuuuuuuce” every Tuesday night while he is there coaching the CrossFit class. I appreciate his support and his shout always generates a few laughs from the rest of the Bootcamp team working out.

10. What advice would you give to a newbie or someone just joining Northlake Bootcamp?

Show up …. Try….Do …. Do Again….And Again…Keep Doing ….. Success

11. What is your eating style?

I watch my portions at meals and always eat a healthy snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon. I drink a ton of water and eat a lot of salads and chicken. When I do eat breads and pasta it is always wheat based instead of flour. And, before you think I’m too obsessed, I have a cheat day every week and eat what I want. In addition, I am a dark chocolate freak and eat some every day. Finally, I also love a glass of cold, chocolate milk after a hard workout!

12. What kind of results have you seen since starting at CrossFit Northlake?

Weight loss; muscle toning; strengthening of all areas of my body; stress relief; wonderful, sound sleep; confidence; motivation; endurance . . .

13. What do you do for a living?

I am a loving father to my two wonderful children, a devoted husband to my lovely wife, a Deacon servant of my church and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and, lastly, the Director of Marketing and Product Management at Hurst Jaws of Life.
